AMOLED vs IPS LCD which is better for eyes? Power consumption, Better for Gaming
AMOLED vs IPS LCD it is one the biggest dilemma people are facing right now while buying a new smartphone. Which is better for the eyes? Which consumes more power? Which is best for gaming? etc.
1. What does AMOLED mean?
AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode. This is a kind of display technology that consists of thin-film layers of electroluminescent power-producing organic compounds and a pixel-modulating matrix. In simple words, tiny LEDs lit up as a pixel and combining such pixels forms a picture on the screen. AMOLED displays feature great colours, deep blacks and remarkable contrast ratios.
2. What does IPS LCD mean?
IPS stands for In-plane switching and LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. IPS screen leverage liquid crystals aligned in parallel to produce rich colours. Unlike AMOLED here with the help of the backlight, the picture is displayed on the screen. IPS display shows more accurate colours.
3. Which display is better for the eyes?
Displays of our smartphones emit Blue light which affects your sleep and potentially cause disease. Some research has shown blue light may increase the risk of macular degeneration, a disease of the retina.
Any phone with an AMOLED display is better for your eyes. The reason is most IPS LCD comes with a cooler tone and thus emit a lot of Blue light. But AMOLED displays generally comes with a warmer tone. Besides this AMOLED displays use their radiation from organic diode and do not have a backlight, as a result, the eye perceives light only from active pixels on the screen, which causes a minimal effect on the eyes.
4. Which is Better for Gaming?
If you are a gamer and you play lots of FPS games on mobile like Call of Duty, Battleground Mobile India (coming soon), Fortnight, Free Fire etc. Then you should always look for the screen refresh higher the refresh rate more the screen fell smooth to you. For example, a 120Hz IPS LCD will feel a lot smoother than a 60Hz AMOLED.
